IMPACT – HIGH

Taiwan recently announced that all inbound foreign nationals are required to have an English-language negative COVID-19 RT-PCR test certificate in order to enter.

Key Points:

  • All foreign nationals entering Taiwan are required to show an English-language certificate of a negative COVID-19 test taken within three days of boarding their flights. They must then undergo 14-day home quarantine and observe other relevant epidemic prevention measures upon entry into Taiwan.
  • The test requirement does not apply to the following categories of foreign nationals entering Taiwan: foreign diplomatic visitors, migrant workers, those traveling for emergency situations and vessel crewmembers who experience difficulty in obtaining a negative COVID-19 RT-PCR test certificate. It also does not apply to foreign students whose travel to Taiwan is overseen by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Labor, and Ministry of Education, and who are in the manageable-risk level category.

Analysis & Comments: Foreign nationals who wish to enter Taiwan should arrange to take a COVID-19 test with an English-language certificate within three days of boarding.
