IMPACT – HIGH

The government of Chile has announced the implementation of strict measures in response to the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

Key Points:

  • All travelers entering the country, and whose final destination is Chile, must complete and sign an affidavit concerning the status of their health, as well as their travel history for the past 30 days, before arrival. Aircraft and ship staff will provide the forms to passengers prior to disembarkation.
  • Chilean citizens and residents returning from abroad will have their temperature taken at their port of entry.
  • In case of virus detection, Chilean citizens and residents will be placed in quarantine, and non-resident travelers will be denied entry and sent back to their place of origin.

Background: Chile is one of many countries that have intensified their response to the COVID-19 virus as the number of cases exceeds 80,000 worldwide.

Analysis & Comments: The new procedures at ports of entry will increase travel time and the likelihood of delays. Employers must be prepared to be flexible with employee schedules and start dates for employees who are affected by travel restrictions and delays. The response to the COVID-19 virus continues to evolve, and Deloitte will alert clients to additional changes or restrictions as information becomes available.
