What is the change? Brazil has announced plans to lift visa requirements for nationals of China, India and Qatar.

What does the change mean? Brazil has not yet implemented the change, but the plans to do so are a sign of its ongoing visa liberalization.

  • Implementation time frame: To be determined.
  • Visas/permits affected: Visit visa waivers.
  • Who is affected: Nationals of China, India and Qatar traveling to Brazil for business or tourism.
  • Impact on processing times: The change would save travelers the time it takes to obtain a visa.
  • Business impact: The extension of visa waivers would ease business travel procedures for nationals of the three countries.

Background: During an official visit to China last month, Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro announced that Brazil would waive visa requirements for Chinese and Indian travelers. Brazil then entered into a visa-free agreement with Qatar during Bolsonaro’s visit to that country. The announcements came after Brazil lifted visa requirements in July for nationals of Australia, Canada, Japan and the United States.
