IMPACT – MEDIUM

What is the change? Argentina is experiencing delays in DNI identification card issuance.

What does the change mean? Foreign employees may be issued DNI identification cards up to 120 days after submitting residence permit applications. Typically, DNIs are issued within 60 days after approval of the residence permit.

  • Effective date: Delays are ongoing.
  • Visas/permits affected: Residence permits (temporary and permanent).
  • Who is affected: Foreign employees applying for DNI identification cards.
  • Impact on processing times: Processing for DNI cards is delayed by up to 60 days.

Background: DNI cards are generally issued 60 days after the residence permit application is approved. Because of ongoing delays and the recent presidential election, the authorities are taking longer to issue DNI cards for foreigners.

Analysis & Comments: Foreign nationals applying for a DNI card may wait up to 120 days after residence permit approval to receive their DNI. The delays should not greatly impact employees besides preventing them from applying for local credit cards or obtaining a driver’s license until the DNI is issued.
