After veering right, turn toward center
After a year in which populist and nationalist movements pushed immigration policy to the right, led by the U.K.’s Brexit vote and the U.S. election of Donald Trump, the tide appears to be ebbing. In recent months, several countries, including Brazil, Canada, France and Ireland, have embraced more liberal immigration strategies to further their domestic economic, political and humanitarian goals.
