IMPACT – MEDIUM
What is the change? Hong Kong’s immigration authorities have clarified their policy on the use of business visas for public speaking engagements.
What does the change mean? Speaking engagements are permitted on a business visa if they are unpaid and if only one speaking event lasting no more than one week occurs during a single trip.
Background: Though speaking engagements were previously allowed under business visas, immigration officials recently clarified the limitations.
BAL Analysis: Employers and individuals are reminded that business visa activities are strictly limited and any activities outside the prescribed conduct may require an employment visa.
