IMPACT – MEDIUM

What is the change? Argentina has eliminated a visa reciprocity fee for U.S. citizens. The move comes after the fee was temporarily suspended in March.

What does the change mean? U.S. citizens will be able to enter Argentina without paying a $160 reciprocity fee.

  • Implementation time frame: Immediate and ongoing.
  • Who is affected: U.S. citizens visiting Argentina for stays of fewer than 90 days.
  • Business impact: The policy will lower costs for U.S. citizens making trips to Argentina.

Background: Argentina’s National Immigration Directorate (DNM) announced the temporary suspension in the visa reciprocity fee for U.S. citizens in March. The Argentine Embassy in the U.S. said at the time that the change was made to strengthen the relationship between the two countries. The change was made permanent, and Argentina published a decree on the matter on Aug. 22 in the Boletín Oficial de la República Argentina.

BAL Analysis: The change is welcome news to U.S. citizens who travel frequently to Argentina as they will no longer be required to pay a $160 reciprocity fee before entering Argentina.
